The Browns lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 2008 NFL playoffs and finished the season 2-14. The Browns retaliated with a 3-1 victory at Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh for the loss to the Steelers. In 2009, the Miami Dolphins defeated the Browns after squandering a 17-point lead in the third quarter, and in 2010 they lost again in a three-game series, this time in front of a sold-out home crowd.

Cleveland took advantage - Jarvis Landry took an inside handoff and scored on a one-yard touchdown run to make it 24-9 for the Browns. The Dolphins' first touchdown, a 3-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Kenny Stills, made it look like they were on their way to a comfortable victory.

In 1995, the team's move to Baltimore was announced, but in February 1996, the NFL announced that the Browns would return to Cleveland for the first time in more than 30 years. The Browns went 0-16 this year, only the second team in NFL history to do so, but set a winning record and missed the playoffs the following year. On December 15, 1996, the Cleveland Browns won their first victory of the season against the Atlanta Falcons 24-14 in front of a record crowd of 7,826 fans at FirstEnergy Stadium.
