Lake Catholic High School Reviews

For parents not from this area and are looking at schools objectively you have to accept that Lake Catholic is at best average and probably below. Thea academics and sports are lacking and the building is dated. St. Ignatius graduates about 20% to the National Honor Society. My guess is Lake would be maybe 1%. The kids that graduate usually go to local colleges; rarely any big names. If you are not from this area don't be mislead. I have a son at Ignatius and a daughter at Lake. There is no comparison, categorially none. My daughter had terrible grades, F's, and they took her. If you're not from the area look also at Benedictine and The Lyceum. The Lyceum is tiny but they graduate kids with excellent SAT/ACTs. They learn Latin and Greek and really focus on the liberal art education. (not politically liberal mind you).

I have two daughters that attend Lake and am very proud of all there improvements.Changing from public to private school was a challenge. The staff is wonderful. All though some of the other children that attend the school are not very friendly my daughters still make the most of the education that they are blessed to recievie.

I am a current student at Lake going into my junior year. There are many classes known as easy A s and those are called electives. It only seemed like so many because a senior takes so many electives (to the last parent). The real problem with classes at Lake is the difference between teachers that teach the same class. (Ex. 2 different social studies teachers who teach the same course) The teachers can be very different and one much easier than the other...it creates unfair advantages. We need a standard curriculum and can't have teachers who do what they want. The grades that kids with different teachers receive are very extreme; class averages between classes can be and are A+ vs. B- in many cases...

My daughter, who recently graduated from Lake Catholic, was in multiple classes last year there that were not what you'd expect at a private school charging over $6000. The kids did absolutely nothing in some of the classes and all students in those classes received A's while learning very little. That's unacceptable.

My oldest son chose LC after considering all the other options made available to him, including NDCL, Benedictine, VASJ, and St. Ignatius. I could not be more pleased with his decision, and the subsequent education he has received. The sports programs are top notch, the faculty is caring and truly takes interest in the development of each student, and the other students are exactly the type of kids I want surrounding my children. The school made a great decision when Chuck Roman was hired. His presence has been felt in everything he has touched. He is a true leader and has been a positive influence on the students, faculty, and even alumni. If you are looking for a co-ed, well run, positive, faith based high school in Greater Cleveland, take a long look at Lake Catholic.

Great school, faculty and staff!

Lake was awesome....greatest experience of my life...go cougars.

My son chose Lake Catholic High School over NDCL, he is happy he did this because he loves the teachers and got excepted to Miami of Ohio. If I could choose any school for my children to go it would be here. GO LAKE!

My son chose Lake Catholic over Notre Dame/Cathedral Latin and is currently a freshman. He is involved with theatre, sports and the Spiritual Life committee and is overall getting what we feel is a quality, faith based education. Mr. Roman, the new school President, goes out of his way to get to know the students and the parents and is very active as are the teachers in my son's educational and scholastic experience. Finally, Lake's 'family atmosphere,' school spirit and it's close alumni association offer what I as a graduate of a public school could only wish for.

My fourth child will be graduating May 2005 and my wife and I are very pleased with their experience at Lake Catholic. Not only have they been challenged academically, but, more importantly, they have grow as fully alive human beings. One strength of Lake Catholic is the faculty's ability to communicate with today's teens about what is really important in life. The most recent fine arts production - Les Miserables - was simply splendid, especially since the performers so young! The sports programs are generally very strong and participants are taught how important discipline is in achieving success. My older children (and their friends) have gone on to much success in college (then graduate school) which we attribute to the fine education they received at Lake Catholic. Lake Catholic is a special place!

My son is a senior at Lake this year. I have nothing but praise for the school. He has been accepted to a very good college and I consider him well prepared. You can't beat the friendships in HS because you will have them for a lifetime in most cases. The children at Lake are the kind of friends I want him to have.

This school may have a great atmosphere for some; however, if your child is at all interested in music or the arts- the public school system far exceeds this school as far as the quality of teaching. Also, unless you are part of a wealthy family, this is not the school for you. My children had mixed experiences (positive and negative) at this school, but one response was universal: they were treated differently because administration knew we were not the family that would be able to afford large alumni donations.

I transferred my third daughter from Lake Catholic to Mentor High. I could no longer see spending the $6000 tuition since every time I called or visited to ask for something out of the ordinary, I met with major resistance. 'That is not our policy and not how we do it' was what I received when asking for help with my Honors students. We all want our children to have lots of opportunity to learn. When they are gifted intellectually, you may want to consider the Public System instead of Lake Catholic.

Lake Catholic says it is a college prep school but in no way is that true. The teaching staff is mediocre at best and the administrators lack the social skills to run a school with a positive atmosphere.

I attended Lake Catholic. It was a great school with caring teachers. The classes really helped me to prepare for college. There was a real sense of community and pride at Lake Catholic.

I was a student at Lake Catholic. I graduated in 1997 and have no regrets at all. My teachers were awesome and I learned more than I could imagine. I was also very ready for college since Lake Catholic was and is a college prep school. Lake Catholic provided self-esteem due to the fact that one could be themselves, learn about God, and learn appreciation of life and others as well as appreciation for themselves. I went to public school until eighth grade and would never send my children there. Lake Catholic is in the future for my children; a 25 minute drive from where I live and it is worth every minute for my daughter to get the education that me and my two brothers had. My parents were very smart and wonderful for sending the three of us there.

Great kids, needs new leadership with more christian-like attitude, My son likes his friends and sports but wishes he attended a public school at times. Focus always seems to be on the wrong issues. Some teachers are caring, others just put in their time.
