Chili Peppers Fresh Mexican Grill: More than just burritos
Some would describe Chili Peppers Fresh Mexican Grill in Euclid to be a lot like national-megachain Chipotle, but there are dozens of reasons why this locally-owned Cleveland phenomenon is better: the all-natural grilled meats, locally-harvested vegetables and homemade salsas and guacamole, to name a few. Oh, and the familiar smiling faces behind the counter certainly don't hurt this popular eatery's reputation, either.
In fact, most of Chili Peppers' patrons will tell you that they prefer their mammoth burritos, nacho plates and tacos to Chipotle's. After all, there is a reason the tiny restaurant has such a faithful and growing following: a tasty albeit unavoidably sloppy reason.
The interior of the restaurant is quaint; it makes a statement without making much of a statement. A simple cafeteria-style dining room features tables adorned with bottles of hot pepper sauce and plenty of seating despite the restaurant's small size. The walls are a cheerful shade of sunshine yellow and a variety of Mexican decorations titivate them perfectly.
Famous for their overstuffed burritos, Chili Peppers Fresh Mexican Grill boasts a menu that is diverse and affordable. In addition to burritos, which can be served traditional, wet or grilled, patrons can choose from tacos, enchiladas, taco salads, quesadillas, soft tacos and nachos.
Meat choices include seasoned ground beef, marinated grilled chicken breast, grilled steak, chorizo and barbocoa, a slow-cooked Caribbean pulled beef. Vegans and vegetarians will enjoy a sauteed grilled vegetable option.
Other filling options include Spanish rice, black, refried or pinto beans, cheddar cheese, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, olives, fresh or pickled jalapenos, banana peppers, sour cream, guacamole and several assorted homemade salsas. Choose one or choose them all, at Chili Peppers, you make your meal your own.
The restaurant also serves up sides of homemade tortilla chips and warm Mexican soups to accompany your menu selections. Chili Pepper's chicken tortilla soup, which is topped off with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkling of cilantro, is perfect during cold winter days in the city.
Chili Peppers Fresh Mexican Grill recently opened a second location downtown in The Arcade on Euclid Avenue. Open only for lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, Chili Peppers at The Arcade is located at 401 Euclid Avenue in downtown Cleveland.
