Zócalo Mexican: a fiesta on Fourth Street
Jun 1, 2009
One of Cleveland’s hottest new restaurants is Zócalo Mexican Grill and Tequilería in the trendy East Fourth Street neighborhood. Adorned with dozens of strands of twinkling overhead lights, the outdoor patio practically mesmerizes you into taking a seat, enjoying a huge margarita and taking in the ambiance that is Cleveland.
In an atmosphere that blends together flirty, playful and classy, this eatery has some of the best comida de México in Cleveland. A multi-level dining area showcases designer lighting and tasteful décor that is as beautiful as it is functional.
Offering the largest variety of tequila in Cleveland, the Tequilería is a hotspot for margarita lovers. Cuervo, Sauza, Tres Ríos and Voodoo are just some of the higher-end labels you’ll find at the bar. All in all, this hip eatery offers more than 70 brands of the golden elixir.
The menu is nearly as extensive as the tequila list. The house favorite are the fish tacos, which combine a crunchy corn tortilla with tender, flaky mahi mahi in a chipotle lime glaze with fresh cabbage slaw and avocado. Other favorites include the Enchilada Tinga Poblano, stewed pork wrapped inside a tortilla then baked and topped with spicy chili sauce and Mexican cheeses, and the Jalisco Steak, a flat-iron cut marinated in adobo served with rajas and seasonal veggies.
A special combination plate menu is also available and features traditional Mexican favorites like tamales, burritos and enchiladas made with your choice of meat and served with Mexican rice and your choice of beans.
Be sure to save room for dessert! The pumpkin flan at Zócalo is rich, creamy and delicious. The bananas con helado café is a tasty treat featuring ripe bananas roasted with a caramel glaze and topped with coffee ice cream and chocolate Kahlua sauce.
Reservations are always appreciated, and are especially helpful on busy weekends. Dress is casual.
