Bier Markt and Bar Centro: a dynamite duo

Bar Centro and Bier Markt sit side-by-side in one facility that's separated down the middle. When you enter the main lobby, you'll have to ask yourself what you're in the mood to eat and drink. Fine wine and gourmet meals? Take a left to Centro. Tasty imported beers and exquisite appetizers? Hang a right to the Markt.
Bier Markt, one of Cleveland’s hottest nighttime destinations, and Bar Centro, a haven for Italian food and wine lovers, share a commercial complex on Cleveland’s near West Side across from the Westside Market.
A hundred imported Belgian ales, as well as dozens of domestic draughts, make Bier Markt a favorite spot for both beer lovers and those looking for a night of conversation and fun with friends. Its full-service bar serves up more than just brewskies; however, as the name implies, beer is the No. 1 seller.
The brew hourse features an eccentric yet tasteful décor that emphasizes soft lighting and locally inspired conversation pieces — like the leg lamp from the movie “A Christmas Story,” which was filmed in Cleveland.
Bier Markt also offers tempting simple cuisine that incorporates its famous Belgian brews into the recipes. Try the Belgian steamed mussels with beer and butter or the Pommes Frites (French fries) with Belgian mayonnaise. A variety of gourmet pizzas are also available.
Across the walk at Bar Centro, the focus is on more than 100 imported wines and rustic Italian fare that's delicious and fresh. Here, too, are a variety of gourmet pizzas. Try the puttanesca with tomato sauce, anchovy, capers, olives and provolone, or the potato pizza with sage, pancetta and provolone.
Entrée choices include brick-oven chicken with fennel and demi glace; pan-roasted halibut with asparagus, cauliflower, burnt lemon and chiles; cavatelli with fresh peas, pancetta butter and parmesan cheese; and potato gnocchi with vodka sauce.
Dress is casual, and reservations are appreciated if you’re dining at Bar Centro. Both facilities are open until 2 a.m. 365 days a year, including holidays.
