Bistro 185's changing menu is always organic, local
Ruth Levine, executive chef and co-owner of Bistro 185, has a mission: to serve exquisite food made with organically farmed local produce.
To Levine, owning one of Cleveland’s most popular restaurants is about more than stimulating the palates and health of her customers — it’s about stimulating the local agricultural economy, too.
She seeks out the freshest locally grown organic ingredients for all of her recipes. (Levine even has an on-site tomato garden!)
The atmosphere at Bistro 185 is friendly enough for a simple lunch with mom, yet sophisticated enough for a date meant to impress a love prospect.
The restaurant is filled with rich woods and warm lighting, tasteful wall decorations and select vintage pieces from an old pub that sat on the site decades ago. All in all, Bistro 185 is the quintessential neighborhood restaurant.
With a menu that changes daily and features only the freshest items of the season, Bistro 185 lets diners try something new every time they visit — though a few menu items are mainstays because they are so loved by the regulars. Frequenters say that the Boeuf Bourgignon, a savory dish that features Angus short ribs, burgundy wine sauce and vegetables, and the slow-roasted lamb shank with rosemary demi glace are among their favorites.
Other distinct and seasonal menu items include sautéed calf liver with bacon, onions and gravy; Chilean sea bass Oscar with King crab, shrimp and hollandaise sauce; wild-caught Hawaiian sesame-encrusted yellowfin tuna; and veal meatloaf with shiitake mushroom gravy.
Bistro 185 serves dozens of imported wines. Business casual dress is required, and reservations are appreciated.
