Aroma Ristorante: Imagine Italy in Avon Lake
Imagine the Tuscan countryside: hearty olive trees, green vineyards as far as the eye can see, the smell of fresh fish grilling in a street-side café while guests drink glasses of robust wine. At Avon Lake’s Aroma Ristorante, you will feel as if you’ve been transported straight to Italy.
There's good reason for that, too: Executive chef and proprietor Mario Fazio tours Italy several times per year and brings home recipes and cooking techniques direct from top Italian chefs.
From the delicious authentic cuisine to the tasteful décor, Aroma Ristorante is as close to Italy as you’re going to get without hopping on a plane and crossing the Atlantic. (But, if you want to do that anyway, Mario does take guests with him on his tours of Italy! You can check the Aroma Tours webpage for details.)
This quaint eatery boasts a sidewalk café, wine bar with tasting room and upscale dining room where the wait staff is warm and knowledgeable. Tastings, which feature imported Italian wines and a variety of antipasti, are held twice per month. For a list of upcoming tastings, visit the Aroma web site.
Chef Mario recommends the Filetto di Carpaccio Alla Cipriani — an antipasti featuring thinly sliced filet tartare marinated in lemon oil with mushrooms and Parmigiano, for a starter. Other excellent antipasti, or appetizer, choices include the Insalatina Caprese, a combination of mozzarella, tomatoes, roasted peppers, basil and olive oil; and Impepata di Cozze, which consists of Prince Edward mussels in a light garlic sauce.
For your main course, try the Linguine Zuppetta, which features fresh pasta, clams, olive oil, garlic and white wine. If you’re looking for something a bit meatier, try the Scalloppina di Vitelo, a delicious dish made with veal, wild mushrooms and cabernet wine.
Don’t forget to leave room for a slice of decadent tiramisu or a cheese plate garnished with Acacia honey and aged balsamic vinegar.
Dress at Aroma is business casual, and reservations are appreciated (required for tastings). Banquet facilities are available for up to 100 guests. Call for more information.
