Das Schnitzel Haus: a taste of the old country

With rustic architecture that mimics what might be seen in the German old country, Das Schnitzel Haus Restaurant is a hotspot for hearty Hungarian, Polish and German cuisine.

Located in the west-side suburb of Parma, this popular restaurant features five kinds of schnitzel. Diners can relax in a covered outdoor beer garden with stone fireplace that serves as a relaxing place to enjoy an imported German lager during the spring and summer.

The laid-back dining area is perfect for a family supper or late-night dinner with friends. Watch the Browns, Cavs and Indians play on one of the restaurant’s many mounted flat-screen televisions. The full-service bar features more than a two-dozen imported and domestic beers and wines, as well as a variety of spirits and domestic draughts.

To tease your taste buds, try the Cevapi — spicy, skinless Serbian sausages served with a creamy vegetable spread, or the Kartoffel Kueglen — crunchy potato pancakes with sour cream and apple sauce.

For your meal, frequenters recommend the Puten Schnitzel — turkey schnitzel with mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes; roasted half-duck with seasonal vegetables; and potato and kraut pierogies with grilled onions and sour cream.

If you can’t quite decide on one meal, you’ve got to try the Deutche Platee: a combination platter that includes the restaurant’s famous veal schnitzel, juicy bratwurst and goulash. The restaurant even offers a variety of pub-style sandwiches, from corned-beef reubens with kraut and Swiss cheese to fried bologna on homemade buns.

The outdoor beer garden can be reserved for parties by calling the restaurant or by visiting the Das Schnitzel Haus web site. Dress is casual, and reservations are not required.
