Don's Pomeroy House: fine dining, elegant décor
Apr 21, 2009
Built in the mid-1800s, Don’s Pomeroy House Restaurant is a Strongsville landmark overlooking a historic town square. Known to offer one of the west side’s most distinctively fine dining experiences, Don’s delivers consistent quality and service.
The restaurant is decorated with rich, lacquered woods, a majestic fireplace, and sturdy masonry. It embraces diners with warm, Old World-style décor and an intimate atmosphere.
Start your Pomeroy House experience with an appetizer such as the warmed brie with apples, strawberries, grapes, apricots, almonds and crostini, or mushrooms stuffed with spinach, sun dried tomatoes, artichokes, sherry cream and asiago cheese.
A bowl of Don’s signature seafood chowder is also a lovely way to begin your meal. Follow that with entrees such as the veal scampi — made with fresh veal medallions, freshwater scampi, romano cheese, garlic, white wine and tomato-basil linguine.
Other excellent choices include the New Zealand rack of lamb with herb-rubbed with mashed potatoes, asparagus and demi glace; the 14-ounce New York strip with mashed potatoes and pesto butter; and double cut pork roast with cornbread stuffing, green beans and cherry-onion chutney,
An assortment of fresh fish — including Boston scrod, lobster tail, walleye, clams and swordfish — make appearances on Don’s impressive menu. A variety of vegetarian dishes are also available.
Be sure to leave room for dessert. Two great choices: the New Orleans bread pudding, made with a southern whiskey bourbon sauce; and the bananas foster, made with caramelized bananas, dried cherries, dark rum, vanilla bean ice cream and whipped cream.
Don's offers a fully stocked bar, an extensive wine list featuring imported and local labels, a large outdoor patio, a VIP room and banquet rooms.
Reservations are helpful to avoid long waits. Dress is business casual.
