It doesn’t take a professional restaurant critic to see that Mavis Winkle’s Irish Pub in Independence is is a wee  bit different from the traditional Irish pub. Rich mahogany and cherry furniture, polished hardwood floors and delicately plated food provide a memorable dining experience.

For starters, try the Irish Sampler- an appetizer that contains all of the locals’ favorites: Reuben Bites, which are bits of corned beef, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese breaded and deep fried, Potat-O-Skins, which are baked and stuffed with Jack cheese and corned beef and served with scallions and sour cream, and Shamrock dip,a lovely amalgamation of artichokes, spinach and parmesan cheese served with homemade tortilla chips.

For your meal, try Mavis’ authentic Irish stew, which features tender beef and lamb chunks, vegetables and herbs served piping hot in a fresh bread bowl. It’s sure to warm up even the chilliest of bones!

And don’t miss out of Mavis Winkle’s famous desserts, like the Bailey’s Irish Cream Cheesecake -- the perfect ending to your Irish lunch or dinner.

The little ones are welcome at Mavis’ too, with classic kids' meals available for guests 12 and under for  $4. The menu also offers a variety of other dishes -- Italian, American, even barbecue, so something will surely tickle your taste buds. The restaurant also offers a special family takeout menu.

Reservations are required for large groups, and the restaurant can accommodate parties of up to 90. Dress is casual. Dinner prices range from around $8 to $18.

Visit the restaurant  website and sign up for their guest book to receive a coupon for a free appetizer on your next visit.
