Pickle Bill's a seafood dream come true

Jan 14, 2010

At Pickle Bill's Lobster House in Painsville, the décor is fun (all right, it's downright goofy) and playful, and the freshly-caught seafood is as close to the ocean as you're going to get in Cleveland. From the boiled lobsters with hot drawn butter to steamed Dungeoness and Blue crabs, fish, shrimp and scallops, Pickle Bill's is the place to be if seafood is your vice.

This huge eatery is set up on a large barge that features an enormous main dining room as well as three bars (including one of the roof!) and an outdoor patio. With a setup like that, it's no wonder why Pickle Bill's is such a popular dinner and drinks destination for Clevelanders on both the east and west sides.

In addition to delicious seafood specialties, Pickle Bill's also serves up juicy aged prime rib, steaks and barbecue items. Basically, if you like to eat just about anything, then Pickle Bill's is the perfect spot.

Founded in 1967, Pickle Bill's served up its first prime rib dinner for just $4.50. The original copy of the founding menu is up on display in the restaurant's cozy fireplace room. While the prices have changed a bit due to inflation, the quality and taste of the famous Pickle Bill's seafood dishes certainly haven't.

To start your meal, try the portobello mushrooms stuffed with a creamy crab stuffing and topped with melted provolone cheese or an order of Pickle Bill's famous pickles-- beer battered and served with a mustard dipping sauce. A cup of hot, creamy lobster bisque is also a great way to kick off your Pickle Bill's experience.

For your meal, the choices are almost endless. Whether you're a seafood junkie or a steak or chicken lover, Pickle Bill's has a menu item (or ten!) for you. Sauteed sea scallops with sherry wine, butter and dijon mustard; King crab legs with drawn butter; a half-pound filet mignon; Lake Erie perch (yellow or white); savory crab cakes; Whiskey Island chicken with bacon, Jack Daniels barbecue sauce and melted cheddar cheese; and St. Louis BBQ ribs all make delightful appearances on Pickle Bill's menu.

A kids menu featuring child-friendly items like chicken tenders, burgers and hot dogs, as well as small portions of fish, shrimp and ever crab legs, is also available.

Be sure to enjoy a tropical drink from one of Pickle Bill's three bars with your meal or with coworkers after a long day at the office.

Banquet facilities for up to 250 are available on-site. For more information, visit the Pickle Bill's Web site.
