STAR! at Playhouse Square a true showstopper

Sep 20, 2009

At Playhouse Square's Star! Restaurant, the whole meaning of “dinner and a show” is shaken. Why? Because the delightful cuisine at Star is as impressive as the live theater itself.

This breathtaking eatery is the perfect beginning or end to a night on the town in the Playhouse Square district. Whether you'll be attending just for post-show drinks and apps or a full-course meal, Star is sure to impress you.

The cuisine at this popular dinner destination is simple and decidedly American, but doesn't leave out the ethnic influences that make the dishes so gosh-darn amazing. The ingredients are fresh and flavorful, and the resulting entrees are true declarations of culinary genius.

For starters, try the jumbo shrimp cocktail-- a classic favorite that Star has made its own by adding special dipping sauces that are far from ordinary. Mango-habenero marmalade and cilantro-lime guacamole alongside traditional cocktail sauce make this otherwise classic appetizer famous. If seafood isn't your thing, the almond-crusted brie with caramelized peaches, cinnamon toast and raspberry port wine reduction provides a playground of flavors that will leave your taste buds begging for more.

Salads include a simple Caesar wedge, which includes a roasted garlic and parmesan crostini with fried anchovies and house Caesar dressing and a delicate heirloom tomato salad with field greens, bocconcini mozzarella, vidalia onions and fresh basil. Spinach salad with toasted almonds and a spicy cilanto Mista are also available.

Main courses are simple and fresh, featuring locally-grown produce and meats from local farms. Try the peppercorn-crusted strip steak, cooked to order with a delightful tomato rosemary risotto and grilled asparagus; chicken piccata with garlic mashers and a lemon garlic sauce; panko-breaded walleye with lobster potato croquette; or grilled salmon with local corn and leek risotto.

The twelve-ounce herb-rubbed pork chop with cheddar and leek mashed potatoes and caramelized peaches is also a popular favorite.

Reservations are always helpful, especially if you plan on eating at Star before or after a live theater event. Business dress is required.
