Cleveland Botanical Gardens offers a spring vacation year round
In the middle of winter, we all crave things like sunshine, chirping birds and budding flowers. Sadly, we can’t rush the arrival of spring. But we can visit the Cleveland Botanical Gardens, which gives us springtime anytime -- and it’s open year round.
Walking the cobblestone and brick paths through lush rain forest gardens can generate a temporary euphoria to see you through even the coldest winter days. The Spiny Dessert of Madagascar offers a warm, wonderful climate that features real native plants and wildlife, including chameleons and lizards that in nature can be found only on the island itself.
The Cleveland Botanical Gardens isn't just a respite from cold-weather, though. The largest crowds visit during the warmer months, when guests can walk though several gorgeous outdoor gardens. With carefully constructed terraces and plenty of fountains to enjoy, the outdoor gardens draw visitors from miles around.
The Japanese garden with its serene layout, a rose garden with thousands of blossoming flora and even a Woodland garden (fantastic in the fall) make the Cleveland Botanical Gardens a working piece of art.
The Hershey’s Children’s Garden features a water play land that the little ones will love on a hot summer day. Kids will also enjoy a tree house, flower station and butterfly cottage. This garden closes on Nov. 1 and opens in May. A variety of children’s activities are also available.
Visitors can eat a light lunch in the Garden Café, and souvenirs are available in the Garden Shop. Visit the garden’s website for a list of scheduled kids' events. Memberships, which provide free admission and other discounts, are available.
