Does "America's Roller Coast" live up to the boast?

Certainly the world-renowned Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio, would be hard to top.

Voted the “Best Amusement Park in the World” 11 years in a row, the 354-acre attraction holds a slew of global records. It's the largest amusement park on the planet, and with 17 coasters among its 75 rides, it also lays claim to having the most thrill coasters.

And as coaster enthusiasts know, it's home to innovative rides such as the Top Thrill Dragster, a 420-foot-tall monster that features a 90-degree (straight down!) decline and speeds up to 120 miles per hour.

Need a break from the rides? The park offers live musicals, plays, ice-skating shows, fireworks and laser displays, concerts and magic shows.

With 15 full-service restaurants and numerous food booths around the park, a quick bite to eat or a complete sit-down meal is never more than a few minutes away. Patrons can also bring their own food and drinks in coolers that can be stored in the park’s giant picnic pavilion.

Soak City, the water-logged counterpart to Cedar Point next door to the park, features hundreds of pools, water slides and other water-related thrill rides. (Admission is extra.)

Cedar Point opens May 16 and closes annually after Halloween.

The standard Cedar Point one-day admission rate is $44 (ages 2 and under free).  Soak City admission is extra, with a one-day pass for $30. A variety of discounts and special packages and other options are available.   Details  here.
