Klingshirn Winery: from vine to bottle since 1935
Published: Jun 15, 2009
If you love wine, you'll love Klingshirn Winery in Avon. Established in 1935, this popular West side winery is in its third generation of family ownership. From the planting and upkeep of the grapevines to the bottling of the wine, the Klingshirn family personally executes every step in the process, from beginning to end.
It is this personal touch that has made Klingshirn Winery such a local success.
With 19 varietals and assorted seasonal blends, Klingshirn offers a wine that will suit anyone's taste. From sweet cherry and iced Delaware to dry Cabernet Sauvignon and chardonnay, Klingshirn's wines cover the gamut of flavors and bodies. Their most popular variety is the Concord– a sweet wine made with plump concord grapes.
The winery also produces several champagnes and dessert wines. Break open a bottle of bubbly white Reisling champagne for a special occasion, or enjoy the “nectar of the gods” — Iced Delaware wine — after a savory meal and see how the contrast in flavors compliment each other.
Tours of the winery are available by appointment during the grape harvest, which is during late August to October. Wines range in price from $6 – $21 per bottle and are available at the Klingshirn store as well as at several local restaurants. The retail store is open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily and is closed on Sundays and holidays.
